Good music, odd event
It was surprising to have Natalie Cole appear on stage first, having thought that she was the main event. She seemed to be eager to get off the stage and impatient with the whole performance process. She wasn't very friendly, didn't make conversation with the audience, and seemed indifferent to the fact that we all were sitting in the rain. Her singing was good, not great, she had on too much makeup, and rarely looked at the people she was singing to. When she was done, it was unclear whether the concert was over, and many people packed up and went home since Lucero - Band hadn't even shown his face yet. There were no announcements about what was going on, so for over 30 minutes, the more resiliant of us concert goers waited for something to happen. Chris Botti was excellent, and since I really wasn't familiar with his name or his music, I was happily surprised. The ensemble of musicians with him were also excellent, and unlike Natalie, he engaged with the audience. The caliber of talent and variety of skills were amazing, and that part of the concert made it all worth while.
